| Why have many Chinese herbal medicines have
had no known side effects as they have been used for thousands of
years without any changes to the formulas? Our ancestors
knew how to balance Chi with natural resources – ancient healers
created five elements (wood, water, metal, earth and fire) theory
that best explains how the power of natural Chi can balance each substance
without side effects.
To best explain how Chinese medicine works by the cause and cure:
there is a game called “Rock, Paper, and Scissors”,
where paper covers rock, scissors cut paper and rock smashes scissors.
Those three substances are balanced with each other so one cannot
stray too far.
The same is with ancient Empire who arranged their governmental
structure. There is a chief, deputy, assistant and envoy in the
herbal formulas. They are balanced to each other and work together
as a team.
For example the formula of Woman’s Cap (Menoprogen)
is made from five herbal foods: wolfberry, safflower, hawthorne
berry, sea kelp and mulberry. They ALL have functions of increasing
blood circulation. As an individual herb, wolfberry is known to
rejuvenate the kidneys, replenish the vital essence, boost the endocrine
system and the herb strengthens non-specific immune functions. It
works by providing an estrogen mimicking effect, which naturally
increases the sex drive and endurance. Safflower has been used for
centuries in China. Scientifically it works by stimulating the ovarian
tissues and function, which naturally increase the production of
endogenous estrogen. Sea kelp is a common food in Chinese people’s
daily life. It is a gentle tonic for the thyroid. It is widely used
to improve hormone imbalance, such as decreased progesterone, and
strengthen the thyroid tissue and function, leading to improvement
of nervous and metabolic function. Hawthorne berry, its phytochemicals
are a great source with a number of good cardiovascular effects.
It increases the elasticity of the arteries and strengthens the
heart, while also lowering blood pressure and exerting a mild solvent-link
effect upon the plaques in the arteries. Officially approved for
pharmaceutical use in Germany, the scientific studies show the plant
to be completely free of any side effects. Mulberry is a well-known
fruit in China. It increases the energy of the kidneys, which may
help to increase oxygenation and blood flow to the ovaries and having
a positive effect on the sex glands with no side effects.
Every herb in China is regulated as a drug. If you don’t know
how to use herbs properly they could cause side effects. Therefore
the knowledge of how to formulate them without any side effects
is very important.
Chinese medicine is a treasure of human history. It represents
a spectacular time of ancient Chinese history. Chinese medicine
involves philosophy, culture, religion, diet, arts, music, archeology
and literature…. You name it. Even though it comes from China,
it belongs to the world. Chinese medicine should not have any boundaries
within the Western world because I truly believe we will all benefit
from its use!
