Photos of the State of the Art Hangzhou People Hospitals from January 2005 and December 2005, 2006

This is an atrium in Hangzhou First People Hospital, China where Jin Fang’s sister, Yu Fang is working.  From the top down, the hospital looks like a five star hotel.  The hospital is completely computerized and has paperless medical system. After visiting their physicians, patients take their  little booklets with bar codes on it to an accounting office, every floor has this system; the computer will make an announcement as to how much the patient should pay and how much the change is at the same time, it also shows this on a little screen and the patient can see it. The system has been in place for three years.  The hospital fills with a lot of people, but is very quiet and clean.

the X-ray department, no X-ray sheet, X-rays are sent to the physician’s desk via computer for the doctor to view.  If patients want to take them out, they pay extra. The person, who is standing, is Jin’s sister Dr. Yu Fang, an ear, nose throat doctor, who has worked there since 1982.

left, a nurse station at night, the back is one of IV rooms. right, Jin Fang observes her sister; Yu Fang is doing operation on a patient. Stopping nose bleeding instantly is Dr. Yu Fang’s new intervention.  The hospital has no price set up for this kind of new technology yet. Dr. Yu Fang also teaches ENT classes at our TCM College. Her hospital does more than 6,000 case surgeries in a year, but 1/3 of is ENT surgeries, her ENT department is well known in China  She is happy to share her new technology with American colleagues. The Average hospitalized ENT patients spend is 6,000-7,000 RMB, which is about $875.00.  The Average Chinese monthly income is 600-800 RMB. The average income in my hometown is probably higher than this.  A Doctor’s income could be 10 times higher.

The Zhengjiang Province GDP growth rate was 14.9% in 2004, and it has had the highest rate in China for the last 20 years.  The average GDP growth rate was 9.4% in China in 2004.

the hospital’s pharmacy; like every hospital in China, all the hospitals are built with Chinese and Western Medicines, the picture shows that left side is a Western pharmacy and right side is a Chinese herbal.

from the street looking at the Hangzhou First PeopleHospital, at the top of the building is a helicopter landing pad.

Left, from our home window looking out, the left side is Zhengjiang First Hospital, well known for its surgery.  Every year they do more than 20,000 case surgeries, not including out patients cases. Chinese herbal medicine is prominent too.  Right, is the hospital lobby; far away is their Chinese herbal pharmacy.

The lobby’s left side is the hospital’s Chinese herbal pharmacy and the right side is the Western medicine pharmacy.  They are all computerized. For same day pickups of medicine, no paperwork is needed.

An OBGYN hospital in Hangzhou, China, another building behind is near completed.  In China, all hospitals are affiliated with medical schools. The President of the hospital, Xei Xing is a well known surgeon, who was Jin Fang’s brother-in-law’s classmate at the university.
